I'm really liking this whole maquette thing. I tried my hand at a humanoid character: Minty the elf. She is not one of my own characters (find more about her and the artist who created her here). I thought that since in the future I probably won't be working on my own characters, but instead other people's designs, I would try to sculpt a character made by someone else. Here's how she turned out:
Its not polished like I had hoped, but I have no idea how to use the tools, and this is only my second attempt at doing anything remotely like this, so I'm not going to nitpick myself. Overall, I'm glad she looks pretty proportional and solid. The total height of the maquette and block is about 10 inches, which is a lot smaller than I thought it would be. I do wish I had worked in a larger scale, but that's something learned for next time.
I definitely want to hone this skill, but with characters for my short film! I wish I had more time!
